Funding Children’s Education Costs

The main goal of ABCD Canada is to ensure that disadvantaged children who are identified by ABCD Tanzania, are able to attend school on a regular basis, maintain their well being and reach their fullest potential. Children Making Art

School Breakfast Programs

Often children are sent to school with very little or no breakfast and furthermore, the only meal they may get during the day is the school lunch. Thanks to our generous donors, ABCD is able to provide the funds for breakfast programs to be established in 12 schools in the Ward of Marangu West. Read more…

School Repair and Maintenance

Tanzanian schools are severely underfunded and this results in zero or minimal repair and maintenance. ABCD is committed to improving the learning environments for the children as well as the teaching environments for staff. Read more…

Personal Care Kits for Girls

Girls missing too much school when menstruating because they can’t afford menstrual care products is a situation which ABCD Canada is addressing. We are very happy to be partnering with and supporting a group of women in Marangu West who have named themselves Care ABCD Tanzania. They are operating a social enterprise to make and distribute personal care kits to local school girls in connection with the Days for Girls international charity. Read more…

School Infrastructure Development

Solar Light for Students

For many families, lighting for personal use and especially for children to study at night is a challenge. After experimenting with many innovative lighting ideas, we found a Canadian manufacturer, Karibu Solar, which made a powerful and inexpensive solar kit for the third world solar market. Read more…

Language Development

To help ABCD students to improve their English reading and writing skills, we developed a pen pal project. Read more…

School Libraries

Many children do not have easy access to books. ABCD provided English story books through donations brought over by our teams of volunteers, as well as Swahili textbooks purchased from a local publisher. Read more…

Cows for Families

ABCD explored ways to support the small, subsistence farming families on the plots of land where they can grow vegetables, bananas and sometimes coffee plants. Read more…
