A local fundi (contractor) has been hired to work with a team consisting of some ABCD students who have vocational school training in the trades but are unemployed, ABCD students who are home from school on school breaks and also other local young people who need work. For example Anna, the only girl on the team has electrical training and is working on electrical repairs in the classrooms!
Schools apply to ABCD Tanzania for minor repair work or maintenance, inspections are done, estimates written up and proposals made to ABCD Canada. If approved, materials are ordered and the team, led by the fundi, will work on the requested repairs.
We see this as a double win because the schools will get the needed repair or maintenance AND some students will be hired and gain valuable experience as well as some remuneration!
