Once again all the families and children gathered with the ABCD volunteers to celebrate, create and enjoy an afternoon together. The children made inspired art in the art room to thank their supporters using coloured pencils and watercolour paint. New and popular this year was a beading table run by volunteer Margo where the children were able to make colourful beaded bracelets.
The Days for Girls personal care kits workshop was also a big success. Eva the dispensary nurse came to explain the use of the kits which volunteer Christine had made with help from many folks at home. All girls, mamas and aunties received a kit and we hope they will enable girls to attend school more often, and feel better about themselves. Many kits were taken to the dispensary to be given to other girls and women later.
A lot of dancing went on…and for the first time the ABCD volunteers took to the lawn and, led by Margo, we all danced a line dance to a Tanzanian song. Lots of laughs ensued. Then the mamas danced and sang for the crowd with their usual energy and passion.
A local drama group performed some very funny skits in costume. A great lunch was enjoyed by all and to top it all off, awards were given out to children who had done very well in school during 2013. It was a very successful day and gave the volunteers lots of opportunity to meet the children and families.
