The Team Arrives: Tired But Excited

Our team of volunteers finally arrived at Kilimanjaro Airport. Matt from Australia came in on Monday on time for Frank and Lynn to meet him at the airport, but Christine, Paul, Megan and Margo’s flight from Toronto was delayed causing them to miss their connection in Amsterdam. So they were re-routed via Nairobi, Mwanza and finally Kilimanjaro Airport on Tuesday! They were travelling for more than 48 hours on 4 flights and were very relieved to finally arrive. Mike came in with them from Mwanza after visiting friends there (and picking up a stomach bug at the same time). He is recovering now.

The next day in Moshi, after a good nights sleep, we were awakened by the call to prayer from the local mosque, had breakfast at the rooftop restaurant with a view of Mount Kilimanjaro, and then hit the hustle and bustle streets guided by Sebastian and ABCD student Josephat.  In Frank’s case he literally hit the streets after spraining his ankle badly! He is also recovering now. We shopped for trunks, mattresses and locks for boarding students, converted US dollars to TZ shillings, met ABCD students Fides and Selena at their college, reunited with good friend John de Ronde of ABCD UK, picked up other necessities and paid for school supplies and school fees. We also had time for a coffee break and lunch, before heading out in 2 daladalas to Makonde art and craft market where beautiful carvings and paintings are for sale by the artists in the open air.
